Art for Monkeys There is a lot of speculation as to what is art and what is not. Jackson Pollack, the expressionist painter, was often accused, then and now, of really just being a fraud and a drunk. Indeed, one of his works, one for which he was paid handsomely by the Australian government in the 1950s, was titled "Painted Drunk at 2am," leading to the question: Was Jackson Pollack any good? The sculpture above of Michael Jackson and Bubbles is by Jeff Koons and is on display at the Whitney Museum of Art in New York. Beautiful, isn't it? Brings a tear to the eye. Or maybe it's just a joke. Art is ideas. It is not necessarily serious. It is really just something that people get a kick out of seeing; for entertainment, for fun. And yes at times it's serious and political and disgusting. What it does, if it is good, is spark emotion in people. Click on the self proclaimed "King of Pop" above and quiz yourself on whether the pics you see are art or not. Just a quiz for fun, see how you do.
