Over the past several days we have been focusing on the art of many genres: Surrealism, Realism, Impressionism; as well as looking into some of the history of art to better understand our subject. As we noted in class, the Gilligan's Island painting is a take-off of Botticelli's masterpiece, The Birth of Venus. We also discussed the painting of Herman Munster staring at his own reflection. That painting was a take on the Narcissus myth originally created by Michael Nicolas-Bernard Lepicie (1771).

As we continue our zen-like approach to writing, moving fluidly from topic to topic, concentrating on the quality of what we write, we will become more aware and adept at realizing just how interconnected everything in our world is. Yesterday I posted a video to New Age artist David Sylvian's "Orpheus." On Tuesday, as a part of Webquest 2, members of your tribe will research many items, among them the Orpheus myth. For 5 points extra credit, watch the video (below), study the lyrics, and in your journal write a one page minimum analysis of how the song relates to Orpheus. Is this a modern day retelling of the myth? Is the song even about Orpheus? If not, why the title?

By the way, I've posted a number of cool links with loads for surreal, odd, unusual, fun, funky stuff.
