I believe you're going my way...
In our surprise ending today, we saw one of the many versions of possibly the oldest Urban Legend. The story of the hitchhicker is one that has been captured in legend, in song ("Phantom 409" is a famous old country song), in film (Carnival of Souls) and in storytelling since the 1930s.

On Monday we will read a short story written just after the Civil War by Ambrose Bierce called "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge." This story was also made into a Twilight Zone episode in 1965. Unlike the other episodes, this one was actually produced as a short French film and won an award at the Cannes Film Festival. It's a little harder to watch, and until the ending seems downright silly, but we will do both, read the story and enter the Twilight Zone. There is no Journal prompt for this post, but we will do an exercise in class on Monday.

You unlock this door with the key of imagination. Beyond it is another dimension - a dimension of sound, a dimension of sight, a dimension of mind. You're moving into a land of both shadow and substance, of things and ideas. You've just crossed over into the Twilight Zone.
