The Passion Project: The Beatles for me represented enlightenment. I learned what great lyrics were, what great instrumentation was, subtlety in poetry, the beauty of things simple. To me they are enigmatic; a symbol of the great things man is capable. For you that may be baseball. It may be Bugs Bunny. It may be Aikido or Picasso or Film. Prepare: now you'll need to share, as I will do when we return. I will touch a nerve in some of you, bore the rest, or intrigue others to dust off their dad's Beatles '65 album (worth a hefty sum on eBay, by the way). Welcome to the real world. In this assignment (details to follow), you're going to bore some people, but you may find that others may have greater interest in your presentations than even you do. My point is to be passionate. Nietzsche said, "Against boredom, the gods themselves struggle in vein." Don't buy into this. There's too much great stuff out there: music, art, dance, politics, science, humming black holes, funny movies, sad ones, Disney World, Speed Racer, cars, baking, James Bond, Jack's Mannequin, Lemony Snicket, each other, your family, your girlfriend, your church, when the fries come fresh out of the grease at McDonald's, the ribs at King's, the new Mustang, the old Mustang, frozen 3 Musketeers bars... What a world. We'll be going backwards through the alphabet when your presentations begin, so if you're a Z or a W or whatever, be prepared.

In the meantime, here's some Beatles Extra Credit.
