Tomorrow prepare for the journey. 2001, A Space Odyssey is one of the ultimate film experiences. Certainly it cannot be appropriately captured on a 25 inch monitor, but hopefully the viewing will inspire you to go beyond. Here is where art, literature, science and music mesh so subtly that we almost gain the knowledge that Bach and Escher and Godel shared, that music and math and physics were all the same thing. We'll talk about the story (and I use that term loosely), the music, the epic meaning (and do some writing), but mostly you'll need to watch and allow yourself to experience. There are movies, and then there is 2001.

this is just to say

I have eaten
the plums
that were in
the icebox

and which
you were probably
saving
for breakfast

Forgive me
they were delicious
so sweet
and so cold

- William Carlos Williams, 1934
