Gatsby and Newland Archer are comparable Americans, but they are particularly contrasting as New Yorkers. While both are
quintessential New Yorkers living out the
American Dream, Newland Archer would be an old man by the time Gatsby came onto the scene. They obtained their wealth in very different manners and lived as the wealthy do, but there is an obvious difference in Gatsby's newly found wealth and Archer's old money. So here it is. This is the task you've been waiting for. Fair warning. In a well written paper of a thousand words (you know, what a picture is worth), compare and contrast Gatsby and Archer; the men, how they lived, the women they loved, the times, the New Yorks. Papers are to be typewritten and double-spaced, with attention to detail, style and presentation, the way a college bound student need not be told. When? Whenever. Papers are due anytime between now and the end of the semester. Those of you reading
The Age of Innocence in those five minute e-mail installments will not finish until the end of March, but that's fine. The end of April is aokay. Just quality work is what I'm after and I'm giving you the time to write me an A paper. That's it. That's what I expect out of
The Age of Innocence. No quizzes. No tests, although their will be a related question on the Mid Term. I'll give you more detail in class.
